The Innocence of Youth Without understanding it, my four year old daughter loved the joke: "Why did the squirrel swim on its back?" "To keep its nuts dry!" It got laughs from her much older siblings all the time! Then one day at the dinner table she said, "Why did the dog swim on his back?" "To keep his bone dry!" Needless to say, it brought down the house! She's eight now and I am sure she does not know why we found it so funny! Without knowing why, kids are hilarious!
